The Great American West.
The first memory I have of the mountains was a family trip in the 60s. The reason I know it was the 60s is the memory of man’s first walk on the moon July 16, 1969, during that trip to Colorado. There was little indication that would begin my exploration of the mountains in the American West.
“I think over again my small adventures. My fears, those small ones that seemed so big, for all the vital things I had to get and reach. And yet there is only one great thing, the only thing. To live to see that great day that dawns, and the light of the light that fills the world.” Edmund Carpenter, Arena.
Years passed before I returned to the mountains. The return was to Colorado in the mid-90s for a hike. My friend Luke invited me to climb one of Colorado’s 14ers. I fell back in love with the mountains. I spent a few more years in Colorado for a time in the summer. Then, I built my first mountain home in the Sangria De Cristo mountains in northern New Mexico. That was followed by the sojourn to Wyoming and my current mountain home near the Tetons.
It is quite common to share my experiences here in hopes of lightening and lighting the way for the lives of those who pause to read. My hope is that this sharing will somehow lighten the load for my fellow travelers.
This summer was spectacular. Beautiful scenery. My visiting friends and I caught lots of the native Cutthroat trout. I had wonderful hikes with my lovely bride. There are some who ask, “Why come back?” from this beautiful place. The answer is the people I love.
I seek out inspiration, and we find it in our homes. It is our friends, family, and a fireplace filled with pinon wood. Fresh snow.
My wish for the coming holiday season is that you will find inspiration. The inspiration I find in the mountains of the American West. My hope is that reading one of my fishing tales will bring a smile and light to your life. Perhaps you will share it with another person, lighting the path for others. We all need some light today, each day. We all need a helping hand sometimes. Be that hand.
From all of us at Vista Investment Partners, we wish you, your family, and your friends the best of holiday season this year. May light and love fill your world, then pass it on.
Enjoy the day…R2
